Top 4 Holiday home locations in North Cornwall
Recently, albeit being the winter period, I have noticed an upsurge in clients asking where are the best locations to buy a Holiday home in Cornwall.
Although there isn’t necessarily a straightforward answer to this question, I have listed my top 4 Holiday home locations within Cornwall, that can give you the freedom and investment potential to live the ‘Good Life’…
Being a mid-Devon resident, myself and my family will often find ourselves in North Cornwall on a regular basis due to its easy accessibility. Here are some of the locations I’ve come across which I think deserve the merit of a ‘Top’ location..
Padstow
We often take the breath-taking walk from Polzeth to Rock, via the fantastic Daymer Bay – with a pitstop in one of the fine and very popular eateries on the way. Nearby to here is the very popular Padstow with famous restaurants like Rick Stein’s named leading the way Seafood restaurant.
Some say the house prices around here are reaching its max, but you have a much longer season in Padstow, as now people come not only for the Summer period, but Easter Holidays and on some occasions all year round.
Property in this area, like a waterside 2-bedroom apartment with harbour views will set you back £650.000; further inland, but still with a Seaview, a bungalow with lots of potential will cost £575,000.
Perhaps your initial perception might be that this is expensive, but I often find that the views makes up for the value in money.
Mawgan Porth
In my opinion, the real gem is hiding in the beautiful Mawgan Porth, north of Watergate Bay and approximately 4 miles from Newquay.
This quiet place offers stunning scenery, wondrous walks and superb surfing – and quite frankly is arguably one of the most up and coming hotspots in the North of Cornwall.
Property prices here range from £375,000 for a 3-bedroom apartment with sea views (something to consider as a great investment opportunity for the savvy investor), to £1,650,000 for a most beautiful family house overlooking the beach.
Bude
I also recommend looking at Bude – In the most Northern town in Cornwall. This location is becoming increasingly popular with new, very good restaurants popping up and great surfing experience.
You can buy a 2-bedroom apartment with river views here from £200,000, a 3-bedroom house with coastal views for £695,000 and a new build 6 bed terraced house for £775,000.
South Cornwall
South Cornwall with its fantastic sailing waters is full of contrast and surprises. From wonderful fishing villages, harbour towns, to subtropical gardens and sheltered river estuaries perfect for boating and inland.
Apart from the obvious very large millionaire’s villas, you will find that you will get more for your money in the south with the drawback of it being less accessible for most people.
To get to London for example, by train you would need to get to Truro which can be a congested route in high season, then the average train journey to London Paddington is 4 hours and 45 minutes.
